A driver in Texas is facing criminal charges after driving a Tesla Cybertruck into a lake during an incident in Grapevine, on the outskirts of Fort Worth.
According to Grapevine police, the incident occurred at Katie’s Woods Park Boat Ramp, on the shores of Grapevine Lake, last Monday (18).
The driver, identified as Jimmy Jack McDaniel, told authorities that he intentionally entered the water to test a Cybertruck feature called “Wade Mode”, designed for crossing flooded areas.
Unfortunately for McDaniel, the vehicle ended up partially submerged after experiencing issues while entering the water. The Cybertruck was removed from the lake by the Grapevine Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team.
According to police, the man was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle in a restricted area of the lake, as well as violations related to water safety rules and failure to have valid registration to operate a vessel. He was released on Tuesday afternoon (19), according to police.
Tesla states in the Cybertruck manual that Wade Mode allows the vehicle to cross shallow stretches of water, such as streams and small flooded areas. However, the automaker emphasizes that it is the driver’s responsibility to assess the depth and conditions of the location before using the feature.
