Israel’s Ministry of Defense has approved the purchase of new AI-guided weapon systems designed for defense against drones and other short-range aerial threats.

According to a report by Defence Blog, the equipment will be supplied by the Israeli company Smart Shooter and uses automated aiming technology based on artificial intelligence to increase accuracy against small, fast-moving targets such as drones.

The acquired systems are part of the Smash Hopper line, a remotely operated weapon station that can be installed on vehicles, fixed positions, and mobile structures. The system uses sensors and algorithms to automatically track aerial targets and assist the operator during firing.

According to the company, the technology was designed to increase hit probability against adapted commercial drones, loitering munitions (suicide drones), and other low-cost threats that have been increasingly used in recent conflicts.

“The remotely controlled Smash Hopper system enables forces to engage ground and aerial threats with high precision while keeping soldiers at a safe distance,” said Michal Mor, founder and CEO of Smart Shooter.

“As drones and other rapidly evolving battlefield threats continue to challenge forces around the world, Smash systems are proving to be an effective operational solution for precise and controlled engagement of ground and aerial threats.”

The new order comes amid growing Israeli concerns over drone attacks in the region. In recent years, Israel has faced threats from Iran-backed armed groups such as Hezbollah, which has increased the use of explosive drones and unmanned reconnaissance aircraft.
