Romanian manufacturer IRUM has unveiled the IRON-690, an autonomous and modular ground drone designed for military support missions, during the “Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA)” exhibition held in Bucharest.
Developed in partnership with the state-owned company ROMARM, the vehicle was designed to operate in logistics, evacuation, supply transport and interventions in high-risk areas, reducing the exposure of military personnel in dangerous environments.

Measuring 6.19 meters in length and capable of carrying up to 7 tons, the IRON-690 was developed to tackle difficult terrain. The platform has 500 mm of ground clearance, can overcome slopes of up to 70% and uses tires designed for off-road operations. According to the company, the system combines high traction, stability and maneuverability, features considered essential for operations in combat zones and hard-to-access locations.
The ground drone uses Perkins Diesel engines in two versions, one civilian and one military, delivering up to 136 horsepower and a maximum torque of 550 Nm. The manufacturer says the system was developed with a focus on reliability and ease of maintenance, using components widely employed in heavy equipment and military vehicles around the world.

In addition to its mobility, the IRON-690 features autonomous navigation systems, electro-optical and infrared sensors, as well as digital communications resistant to electronic interference. The vehicle can also continue operating even in the event of signal loss, following programmed routes and automatically avoiding obstacles. According to IRUM, the platform was designed to meet NATO interoperability standards and can be quickly adapted to different types of missions thanks to its modular design.
