Two United States Navy fighter jets collided mid-air during a performance at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show in Idaho, in front of thousands of spectators attending the event.

Footage recorded by spectators shows the aircraft flying in formation before colliding in the sky and plunging toward the ground engulfed in fire and smoke. The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon (17) near Mountain Home Air Force Base.

According to U.S. authorities, the aircraft involved were two Boeing EA-18G Growler jets from the U.S. Navy, a specialized electronic warfare variant derived from the F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Fortunately, all four crew members managed to eject seconds before the crash. Videos of the incident show parachutes opening above the crash site while a large fireball erupted on the ground.

Authorities later stated that the military personnel were found conscious and in stable condition. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The accident occurred during the first Gunfighter Skies Air Show held in eight years. Following the collision, the air base was placed on lockdown and the remainder of the event was ultimately canceled.
