BMW has presented the Vision BMW ALPINA, a unique design study that previews the brand’s new phase within the German group, combining a V8 engine, elevated comfort and an aesthetic clearly aimed at the luxury segment.

Revealed at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2026, the Vision BMW ALPINA marks an important turning point for the traditional Buchloe-based tuner. Now treated as an exclusive brand within the BMW Group, ALPINA is set to occupy a strategic space between conventional BMW models and the ultra-luxury world of Rolls-Royce.

The proposal draws attention precisely because of this delicate balance: preserving ALPINA’s identity, known for combining performance and comfort, without turning it into just another luxury label within BMW’s portfolio. The concept tries to answer that question with a large, low and elegant coupé, equipped with a V8 engine and a look inspired by classic models from the brand.

The design features a front end with the so-called shark nose, a reference to the Alpina B7, reinterpreting BMW’s double kidney grille in a more sculptural way. The body also features modernised decorative lines, 22-inch wheels at the front and 23-inch wheels at the rear, as well as the traditional set of four exhaust outlets.

Inside, the Vision BMW ALPINA reinforces the idea that performance does not have to mean discomfort. The cabin uses full leather, crystal details, refined metallic finishes and its own interpretation of the BMW Panoramic iDrive system, including a screen for the passenger. The Comfort+ mode appears as one of the symbols of this philosophy, offering an even smoother calibration than BMW’s standard setup.

The most curious point is that BMW seems to be using the concept not only to show a car, but also to test public perception of ALPINA’s future. While it highlights historic elements, such as the decorative lines and inspiration from the B7 Coupé of the 1970s, the project also makes it clear that the brand is expected to move towards a more expensive, more sophisticated level, and possibly one further removed from its traditional enthusiast audience.

According to BMW, the first model from the new BMW ALPINA phase will be presented to customers next year and will be inspired by the BMW 7 Series. It is expected to maintain the combination of speed, comfort and sophistication, but with an even stronger presence in the high-luxury market.
