The British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales has begun a new military mission toward Northern Europe amid rising strategic tensions in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
The vessel departed Scotland accompanied by escort ships and logistical support vessels to participate in joint exercises with NATO countries and members of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
The first stage of the operation will take place in the fjords near the Norwegian city of Bergen, where British and allied forces will conduct training focused on protecting high-value vessels from fast and highly maneuverable threats. After that, the group will head to the High North to take part in the Dynamic Mongoose exercise, considered NATO’s main anti-submarine warfare training exercise in Northern Europe.

Royal Navy officials highlighted that the mission reinforces the United Kingdom’s commitment to NATO’s collective security and the defense of Northern Europe. According to British commanders, the joint training improves integration between allied forces and expands response capabilities in increasingly unstable scenarios.

The military deployment comes at a time of growing NATO attention toward the Arctic and the High North since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022. Finland and Sweden’s accession to the military alliance significantly expanded NATO’s presence in the region, while the JEF has been gaining importance as a military cooperation mechanism among Northern European countries.
