The United States government has authorized an emergency arms sale to Israel valued at around US$ 992.4 million.
The package includes 10,000 units of the APKWS-II system, a technology that converts 70 mm Hydra rockets into high-precision guided munitions. The decision was formalized by the State Department on May 1, 2026.
To speed up the deal, Washington used an emergency clause provided for under US law, allowing the sale to be approved without going through the traditional review period by the US Congress. According to the Secretary of State, the measure was deemed necessary for reasons related to the country’s national security.
In addition to the guided rockets, the agreement also includes testing equipment, spare parts, technical support, military training and contracted assistance. The company responsible for the main supply will be BAE Systems, a company based in the state of New Hampshire.
US authorities say the delivery of the systems will help Israel face current and future threats, strengthening its defense capabilities and expanding its deterrence power in the region. The US government also emphasized that military support for its Israeli ally is part of its strategy to maintain political stability and security in the Middle East.
