Ukrainian drones struck the VNIIR-Progress defense plant, located in Cheboksary, Russia, again on the morning of May 5.
The attack marks the second offensive against the complex in just a few hours, after a cruise missile had already hit the site during the early hours of the morning.
Video footage recorded by residents shows drones flying over residential areas before diving toward the target. Regional authorities confirmed the attacks, while reports indicate that at least four drones took part in the operation, leading to partial traffic restrictions and the suspension of in-person classes in the city.
The targeted facility plays a strategic role in the production of military equipment, including receivers and antennas for satellite navigation systems used by Russian forces. These components are employed in drones, missiles and guided bombs, increasing their relevance in the current conflict scenario.
The factory’s recent history shows that it has already been the target of several previous attacks, with reports of fires and disruptions to operations. Independent analysts also point out that the complex was recently hit by a cruise missile, reinforcing the intensity of the offensives against Russian military infrastructure.
