Ukraine’s naval drone offensive resulted in the destruction of two Russian vessels protecting the Kerch Bridge, causing the death of all crew members on board.
Among the targets was the “Sobol” patrol boat, used by the FSB Border Service, as well as a “Grachonok”-class vessel.
The attack took place in late April and is part of Ukraine’s growing strategy of using maritime drones to strike Russian assets in strategic areas, especially in the occupied Crimea region. The operation also highlights the vulnerability of patrol vessels to this type of technology.
The boats hit were tasked with ensuring the security of the Kerch Bridge, an infrastructure considered crucial by Moscow for its connection with Crimea. The destruction of these units represents a direct impact on Russia’s maritime surveillance operations in the region.
In addition, recent attacks against tankers linked to the so-called shadow oil fleet indicate that Ukraine has been expanding its targets at sea, striking not only military vessels but also strategic assets connected to Russian energy logistics.
