Air New Zealand’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft are set to receive lie-flat bunk pods in economy class, the airline announced.
Called Skynest, the rest pod features a lie-flat mattress and measures 2 meters in length, 64 cm at shoulder height and 41 cm in the foot area.
“The Skynest provides a break away from your regular seat. It is a great way to pause during the journey and have the chance to lie fully flat,” the airline said on its website.
Among the amenities, passengers will have bedding, a privacy curtain, adjustable lighting for rest and reading, a personal compartment, USB charging and a kit with an eye mask, earplugs, socks and skincare items.

The aircraft will operate long-haul flights between Auckland, New Zealand, and New York, United States, on direct journeys that can last 17 hours.
“For a country as remote as New Zealand, the journey matters,” said Nikhil Ravishankar, CEO of Air New Zealand, in a statement.
“Tourism is a NZ$46 billion industry, but growth depends on travelers’ willingness to spend long hours in the air to get here. The Skynest was designed to make that easier.”
