The Suffolk County Police Department in New York has recently added a $60,000 Corvette Stingray to its vehicle fleet.
According to The New York Post, the car was confiscated from its former owner in 2022 and is now at the center of a department campaign against drunk driving in the county.
“It was a pretty impactful seizure. I’m sure the [former owner] will remember it for the rest of his life,” said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina to The Post.
“Frankly, that night we could have saved his life. He was driving drunk, and God knows what could have happened to him if we hadn’t taken the car. We want people to know that if you drive drunk in Suffolk County, this can happen to your car.”
The seized 2020 Corvette features a sunroof, a V8 engine under the hood, and has only about 4,800 km on the odometer. Its market value is estimated by Kelley Blue Book between $60,000 and $65,000, although the model has previously sold for as much as $90,000.

After the seizure, Suffolk police refurbished the vehicle, which now includes sirens, lights, and a full paint job matching the department’s fleet, along with one unique detail: an emblem stating that the car was confiscated in a DUI case.
The car is not expected to be used in daily police operations. Instead, it will be displayed at public events and parades as a visual reminder that drunk driving can come with serious financial consequences.
“Any money we could have gotten for this car at auction… this is an investment in our future. We can use this car many times, and we hope it will deter drunk driving in Suffolk County. I think we’ll get our money back ten times over,” Catalina concluded.
