Hyundai Rotem began 2026 with historic results, driven mainly by consistent growth in the defense sector.

The South Korean company posted record revenue in the first quarter, reaching around US$ 983 million, an increase of nearly 24% compared with the same period of the previous year. The highlight was the military division, which remains the company’s main financial and strategic engine.

The positive performance was also reflected in profitability indicators. Net profit rose 29%, while operating profit advanced by more than 10%. Strong cash generation and financial solidity led major credit rating agencies to upgrade the company’s rating to AA-, signaling greater market confidence in the manufacturer’s sustainable growth.

The defense area accounted for more than half of the company’s revenue and practically all of its operating profit, with high margins for the sector. In contrast, the railway segment, despite recording sales growth, saw a sharp drop in profitability, pressured by execution costs in new projects. The environmental division posted a more modest performance, with a slight decline in revenue.

Even with a decline in new orders during the quarter, the total backlog remains strong, supported by major international contracts such as the K2 tank program with Poland. This project, one of Europe’s largest land military agreements, guarantees long-term demand and reinforces Hyundai Rotem’s position as one of the leading global players in the defense sector.
