Denmark has chosen the European defense system SAMP/T NG to protect its airspace, Thales announced. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028.
“Denmark officially becomes the third country, after France and Italy, to join the user base of the SAMP/T NG air defense system,” the company noted in a statement.
The system includes the Thales Ground Fire surveillance radar, which has a range of up to 400 km, provides 360° panoramic coverage, and has a 90° elevation angle.
The Ground Fire radar, which has been in serial production since early 2025, recently achieved successful results in qualification tests for the French version of the SAMP/T NG system.
The Danish variant of the SAMP/T NG air defense system will notably be equipped with the Ground Fire 300 radar, capable of detecting and tracking a wide range of threats simultaneously while maintaining the mobility characteristic of tactical radars.
Thales will also act as the system integrator and will provide the ME-NG (Next Generation Engagement Module) command, control, and guidance module, developed in partnership with MBDA.
The Ground Fire radar and the ME-NG module ensure autonomy while maintaining a high level of operational readiness. “Denmark will benefit from increased production capacity of SAMP/T NG and Aster missiles, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028,” Thales noted.
