Raytheon, a division of RTX, has announced the signing of a contract worth $3.7 billion to supply Patriot GEM-T interceptors to Ukraine, in another move to strengthen the country’s air defense amid the ongoing war.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, April 14, the new GEM-T production facility in Schrobenhausen, Germany, is expected to play a central role in fulfilling this direct commercial sale and future contracts. The facility is operated by COMLOG, a joint venture between Raytheon and MBDA Deutschland.

According to the company, the new factory will help strengthen supply chain resilience and replenish the stock of interceptors used by Ukraine in defending against aerial threats.

“Raytheon is focused on maximizing production capacity, ensuring a stable and reliable supply of these combat-proven interceptors to the United States and allies such as Ukraine, who rely on Patriot to protect their citizens, infrastructure, and sovereignty,” said Phil Jasper, president of Raytheon.

The company also reported that it is expanding investments to increase GEM-T production in response to growing global demand. According to Jasper, this progress is driven by internal and partner investments, second-source supply initiatives, and the expansion of the global supply chain.

The Patriot Advanced Capability-2 (PAC-2) Guidance Enhanced Missile-Tactical, known as GEM-T, is designed to intercept various types of aerial threats, including tactical ballistic missiles. The weapon is one of the main components of the Patriot air and missile defense system, widely used by Western allied countries.

Currently, the Patriot system forms the backbone of the air defense of 19 countries and continues to be considered one of the most effective platforms against a wide range of threats in the airspace.

The new contract reinforces not only military support for Ukraine but also the strategic importance of industrial expansion in the European defense sector, at a time when demand for missile defense systems and interceptors remains high.
