A man is facing a criminal charge with a possible prison sentence after his 12-year-old son ran a red light and crashed while riding an electric motorcycle through the city of Yorba Linda, California (USA).

According to the channel KTLA, Richard John Eyssallenne, the boy’s father, was charged with endangering a minor and also received a misdemeanor charge for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison.

According to the outlet’s report, the boy received a Talaria XXX electric motorcycle as a gift the previous Christmas, but he had already had trouble with the police for riding illegally before the accident in question, which occurred in the middle of last year.

The electric motorcycle had allegedly already been seized, and both the boy and his father had to attend a safety briefing conducted by the Yorba Linda Police Services.

Apparently, neither of them paid much attention to the briefing. The accident occurred a few months later when the boy ran the red light and crashed into a car, causing “a concussion, intracranial bleeding, a skull fracture, a broken wrist, and a fractured femur.”

It is worth noting that under state law, the boy should not have been riding the motorcycle on public roads at all, as the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle license in California is 16.

All of this led to the reason why the boy’s father was charged with these crimes. The accident could have been much worse. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of parents to keep the child safe and off the road.
