Russia claimed to have carried out a record interception of Ukrainian drones in just 24 hours. According to the country’s Ministry of Defense, air defense systems shot down 754 fixed-wing drones, as well as three guided bombs and three rockets launched by the HIMARS multiple launch system.
According to the Russian government, the operation took place during a series of attacks conducted by Ukraine against infrastructure linked to Russia’s military effort. In recent months, Kyiv has intensified the use of long-range drones to strike ammunition depots, defense industry facilities, and oil refineries inside Russian territory and in occupied areas.
Despite the high number reported by Moscow, there is no independent confirmation regarding the number of drones shot down. Russian authorities also did not specify which regions were targeted by the attacks or which air defense systems were used to intercept the aircraft.
Experts point out that the reported volume may indicate a possible expansion of Ukraine’s drone operations. During the war, the country invested in the development of domestically produced long-range unmanned aerial vehicles capable of striking military and industrial targets hundreds of kilometers from the front line.
