Russia has begun employing a new air-launched cruise missile in the war against Ukraine, identified as Izdeliye 30, according to analysis of debris released by Ukrainian military intelligence.
The weapon reportedly entered service in late 2025 and reinforces indications that Moscow is facing difficulties maintaining stocks of older missiles while attempting to adapt its production to the demands of the conflict.
According to information released by Ukraine’s Intelligence Directorate, the missile features folding wings with an estimated wingspan of about three meters, a warhead of approximately 800 kg, and a minimum estimated range of 1,500 km. The system is powered by a compact turbojet engine that allows a cruising speed of around 724 km/h. The weapon also incorporates components reused from earlier models, a strategy that could reduce costs and accelerate manufacturing.
Analysts say the project is linked to the Kh-35 anti-ship missile, produced by the Russian design bureau Zvezda, and shares technologies with weapons already used by strategic bombers such as the Tu-95MS and the Tu-160. The objective would be to create a simpler and cheaper alternative to the long-range Kh-101 and Kh-555 missiles currently used by Russia’s strategic aviation.
Experts assess that the new missile could help Moscow maintain the intensity of long-range strikes even with limitations in the production of more complex weapons. However, the Izdeliye 30 likely has fewer stealth features and countermeasures than more advanced models, which could make it more vulnerable to air defenses — although its introduction still represents an additional challenge for Ukrainian defensive systems.
