Mercedes-Benz has recently announced a major update to its S-Class lineup. Among the numerous changes, the highlight is the ultra-luxurious fabric used for the seats inside the cabin.

Available starting from the entry-level S350d model, the upholstery combines synthetic leather for the side bolsters with a fabric made from linen and recycled polyester for the center section of the seat.

Surprisingly, this new fabric option is not positioned as a more affordable choice. In fact, customers will have to pay extra if they want it.

According to Carscoops, choosing the fabric seats requires purchasing the “Electrically adjustable rear seats with memory function” package, which adds €1,856.40 (around US$2,200) to the car’s total price.

Buyers who still prefer genuine materials are not left out, as full black genuine leather is available as a no-cost option.

Pricing for the updated S-Class has not yet been disclosed. However, considering that the previous model starts at US$119,500, it is reasonable to assume that the refreshed version will cost slightly more.
