A Nissan car owner shared a trick he discovered to permanently disable the “start-stop” feature of his vehicle.

Ryan posted a video on his TikTok profile to explain that he hated the automatic engine shut-off system after braking, a feature found in many modern cars.

Although several car manufacturers have embraced the tool, which supposedly helps reduce fuel consumption, the overwhelming majority of drivers hate the feature.

In fact, Ryan shared that with the feature active, his car had been turned off for over 8.5 hours and had only saved 11 liters of fuel. Many users argue that leaving the start-stop function on can cause the car’s starting systems to deteriorate more quickly.

Fortunately, cars with the start-stop programming also have a button somewhere inside the cabin that allows the driver to turn off the feature. However, it is not permanently disabled, so the driver must manually press the button every time the car is started.

This is what frustrated Ryan. Desperate for a way to permanently disable the feature, he explained that he discovered how to do it with a simple piece of paper, which he placed in the gap between the button and the panel.

“Yes. I haven’t touched that button in weeks. And I’m the happiest man on the planet,” Ryan celebrated in a video posted on his TikTok profile, which has already accumulated over 40,000 views and several comments from users who shared their opinions on Ryan’s hack.

“High-tech problems require low-tech solutions,” joked one TikTok user. “Personally, I’d pull the switch and hook it up so it would be pulled up/down without needing [the stick], but this way works too,” analyzed another.

“It’s a big deal because it should be optional, not turned on by default and have to be manually turned off every time you start the vehicle,” lamented a third user. “Just let your battery get low enough that the start-stop won’t kick in,” joked another.
