The United Kingdom has signed a government-to-government defense sales agreement for the transfer of the former Royal Navy survey vessel HMS Enterprise to Bangladesh, the website UK Defence Journal revealed.

The agreement was signed at the Bangladesh Navy headquarters in Dhaka during an event attended by Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh; Lee Norton, Commander and Defence Attaché; and a trade representative from the UK Ministry of Defence.

The UK government said the sale highlights its ongoing partnership with Bangladesh in enhancing maritime security and promoting a “free and open Indo-Pacific.”

According to the British High Commission in Dhaka, the vessel will support Bangladesh’s maritime security and contribute to broader regional stability efforts, while also expanding the country’s hydrographic and oceanographic survey capabilities.

The vessel is also expected to support scientific research activities and provide opportunities for Bangladeshi universities. “The sale of this survey vessel reflects the deep trust and strong cooperation between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh,” said Sarah Cooke.

HMS Enterprise served the Royal Navy with distinction, and we are proud to see her begin a new chapter supporting Bangladesh’s maritime capabilities and our shared commitment to a safe and prosperous Bay of Bengal.”
