Iran announced the integration of 1,000 new drones into its military arsenal, in a move linked to the escalation of tensions with the United States and the belligerent rhetoric of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to state news agencies in Tehran, the unmanned vehicles were developed by army experts in partnership with the Ministry of Defense to address “emerging threats” and capitalize on lessons learned during the 12-day war with Israel last year.
The drones, used for both land and maritime operations, are said to have offensive, tactical, and strategic capabilities, capable of attacking fixed and mobile targets on land, in the air, and at sea, although no images of the equipment have been released due to military security reasons.
The commander of the Iranian Army, Amir Hatami, emphasized that the boost in military power aims to maintain and expand the country’s strategic advantages, allowing for rapid and “decisive” responses to any external aggression. Hatami stated that this priority is in line with the future threats perceived by Tehran, and that the expansion of drone capabilities is part of this ongoing defense strategy.
The announcement of the drones’ integration comes amid escalating rhetoric between Tehran and Washington. Trump has intensified his stance against Iran, stating that an American naval group—described by him as a “massive fleet”—was heading to the Middle East, and that “time is running out” for the country to agree to a fair deal, without mentioning the use of nuclear weapons. The president emphasized the readiness of the U.S. to act quickly and forcefully if necessary.
In response to American statements, Iranian authorities repeated that they are open to dialogue only on terms they consider respectful and balanced, but reaffirmed that they would vigorously defend themselves against any pressure or attack. Tensions between the two countries remain high, with mutual threats and military movements increasing concerns about possible confrontations in the region.
