A woman who decided to go to the women’s bathroom at a gas station recorded the moment she realized something was wrong with the mirror.

Alexandria Eliza shared a video on her TikTok profile to explain her discovery. In the clip, she showed that there were two mirrors inside the bathroom, but one of them was positioned perfectly at the height of the toilet.

Additionally, Eliza demonstrated how, in the mirror above the sink, the reflection behaved normally when she placed her finger there. However, the mirror next to the toilet seemed to have a different reflection.

“This mirror was confusing me because it’s a random mirror in the women’s bathroom pointing directly at the toilet, not even at eye level,” Eliza explained.

“I checked the spacing and there was an obvious difference. And you can see there’s an employee-only room right next door. I don’t know, call me crazy, but it was scary to think it could be [a two-way mirror].”

The test Eliza performed is a relatively effective way to determine if a mirror is real or fake. According to Western Kentucky University, when you place the tip of your finger on a mirror, you should see a space between your finger and its reflection.

Now, if your finger touches the mirror and the reflection seems to touch it exactly, as if you were touching your own finger, be careful. This tip applies to public bathrooms, such as those in restaurants, gas stations, and cafes, as well as hotels and Airbnbs.

Eliza’s video has accumulated over 25 million views, but from the clips she presented, many users were not convinced it was a two-way mirror.

“[Two-way mirrors] are very obvious and require one room to be very well-lit and the other as dark as possible,” explained one TikTok user in the comments section. “How is this a [two-way mirror] when we can see the tiled wall behind the mirror?” another asked.

Meanwhile, others suggested different tips to settle Eliza’s doubt. “The spacing theory can go wrong. Turn off the bathroom light and record a video with your flashlight. You [should] see the entire room on the other side,” advised a third user.

On the other hand, some users didn’t doubt Eliza’s suspicion at all and immediately suggested involving authorities. “I’m being genuinely serious when I say call the police,” exclaimed one. “Why are there two mirrors side by side? That’s very suspicious,” argued another.
