A drone hit the container ship Aurelia shortly after the vessel left the Russian port of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea.

The attack occurred on January 18, while the ship was sailing about 80 to 90 nautical miles from the coast, according to information released by Marino Ph and images circulating on social media.

Photographs show that the impact hit the starboard side of the ship, damaging several containers. Despite the scare, the 16-person crew was not injured, and the ship was able to continue its voyage normally to the Turkish port of Samsun, where it docked around 2:30 PM local time.

After arrival at its destination, the damaged containers were removed, and the ship underwent a thorough inspection to assess the structural damage. The Aurelia is owned by a Turkish operator, operates under the flag of Cameroon, was built in 1998, and is approximately 100 meters long by 18 meters wide.

There is still no confirmation as to who carried out the attack. Days earlier, on January 13, another drone had already struck the deck of the tanker Delta Harmony, also near Novorossiysk, causing a fire in the pipeline area. The ship was on site to load oil from the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, primarily responsible for transporting crude oil from Kazakhstan.
