Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has received an armed patrol vessel developed domestically and funded by the Diana Podolianchuk Foundation, according to an official statement.
As reported by the website Defence Blog, the new vessel was delivered by the Diana Podolianchuk Foundation last Thursday (1st), with the note describing it as a New Year transfer to support maritime operations.
The vessel is an internally developed project and is described as the first of its kind produced in Ukraine. Currently, there are few comparable platforms available on the global market. According to the intelligence service, it is expected to be used for operations across the Black Sea region.
“I would like to thank everyone who participated in the implementation of this project. Thanks to these vessels, we can confidently carry out special operations on the water and fight for our Black Sea,” said Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, in a statement accompanying the delivery.
The vessel is intended to provide fire support and direct assistance to maritime operations conducted by Ukrainian military intelligence units. Among its key features is a modular weapons configuration that allows the installation of heavy machine guns and grenade launchers, which can be swapped depending on mission requirements.
The hull and cabin of the vessel feature fragmentation-resistant and bulletproof protection, while each firing position is equipped with its own armored shield. The platform is also equipped with modern navigation equipment, communication systems, and command-and-control tools, enabling effective use in a wide range of operational conditions.
The vessel is 10 meters long and can carry up to two tons of payload, making it one of the largest vessels currently in the inventory of Ukraine’s military intelligence. Its dimensions and load capacity allow for the transport of personnel, weapons, and mission equipment, while still maintaining high maneuverability.
