France has confirmed the purchase of two Saab GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft in a contract valued at approximately $1.35 billion.
The agreement was signed with the French defense procurement agency DGA and includes ground equipment, training, and logistical support, with deliveries expected between 2029 and 2032, as well as an option for two additional aircraft in the future.
With this decision, Paris joins a select group of European countries adopting the GlobalEye to replace or complement legacy airborne surveillance systems. The choice reinforces France’s strategy to strengthen its own and Europe’s capabilities in a context of modernizing early warning fleets across the continent.
Based on the Bombardier Global 6000/6500 platform, the GlobalEye integrates active and passive sensors capable of detecting and classifying aerial, maritime, and land targets at long ranges, providing real-time situational awareness. According to Saab, the system is designed for multi-domain operations and directly contributes to the sovereignty and security of Europe.
