A Ford dealership salesperson posted a video to vent about the reality of car sales after receiving an unusual request from one of his potential customers.
Scott Wilson, who works at the Crossroads Ford Dunn-Benson dealership in Cleveland, Ohio (USA), spoke about the “reality of car sales” while recounting that he received a customer with a rather unusual request at his store.
“A customer pulled into the parking lot [and] asked about a 2026 Bronco. We don’t have [2026 vehicles] here on the lot yet. He asked about building one,” Wilson began in the video.
He then replied: “We can definitely build one for you, sir, but unfortunately, it takes about three to four months to get here.”
That’s when the man said that the last time he ordered a Ford vehicle to be built for him, the process took only six weeks. “So my [next] question was, ‘Well, when was that?’ And he said, ‘1971,’” Wilson recounted.
“More than 50 years ago. Yes, building a car takes longer now than it did in 1971. No, we cannot build a brand-new car from scratch to your specifications in six weeks. Needless to say, I didn’t close the deal, but [we move on] to the next one.”
“Not every [customer who walks into the store] is a win. Some are frankly hilarious. This one was interesting,” Wilson wrote in the caption of the clip, which has already received more than 1,000 views.
“Ford can absolutely build a new car in six weeks, [but] they won’t [do it] until more 2025 Broncos are sold. Good luck with that,” wrote one TikTok user in the comments section.
