A man warned internet users after buying an oil filter for his car at Walmart, only to discover that someone had swapped the contents of the packaging as part of a scam.

In a video posted on his TikTok profile, Dan is seen in the automotive parts section of Walmart explaining that he had purchased an oil filter for his Toyota at that store.

Unfortunately, when he got home, he was shocked to open the box and find that someone had swapped the contents. Instead of the original Toyota filter, he received a generic Super Tech filter, Walmart’s own affordable automotive parts brand.

“Someone swapped it, paid much less than what the Toyota filter probably costs, and stole. But I get home and have these junk filters here that don’t fit my car. So annoying,” Dan said in the video.

In the comments, many users reported similar experiences, including one who found a Fram filter stuffed inside a Mobil1 box—a swap with a price difference of nearly $20.

Another described buying new windshield wiper blades, only to find used blades inside the box that “someone put back.”

This problem seems to be caused by the fact that many retailers, like Walmart, do not typically inspect the contents of returned boxes.

To avoid this happening to you, it is recommended to open the box and check the contents before completing your purchase. If the seals are broken, ask an employee to inspect the item with you.
