The South Korean Marine Corps took a historic step by launching its first Fast Assault Craft, the HCB-001, fully designed and built in the country.

This new naval vessel marks the first officially introduced craft by the force since its establishment and was developed to significantly enhance rapid response and amphibious operations in advanced areas.

Named Cheongsaechi, the vessel was designed as a dedicated combat platform, surpassing the currently used rigid inflatable boats in terms of speed, protection, and firepower. At around 18 meters in length, the HCB reaches up to 45 knots thanks to jet propulsion and is equipped with remotely controlled 12.7mm weapon stations, along with two 7.62mm machine guns, maintaining high maneuverability even in shallow waters.

In addition to ballistic reinforcement in critical areas, the new vessel allows for the rapid disembarkation of Marines via ramps and the use of auxiliary boats, expanding its versatility in coastal and amphibious missions.

After the testing phase, delivery is expected by December 2026, when the HCB will strengthen rapid-response operations in the West Sea islands and contingency scenarios.
