An 82-year-old woman who accidentally stopped on train tracks walked away with minor injuries after being struck by the locomotive, police revealed.
The incident happened last Wednesday (26) in New Jersey, United States. According to local authorities, the elderly woman stopped the vehicle when she saw the railroad crossing signal for the approaching train on Route 535.
However, as reported by the South Brunswick Police Department to Patch.com, she didn’t realize she had stopped her car on the tracks, which caused a Conrail freight train to strike it.
Her car was dragged for about 400 meters, according to authorities. In images released by police, the woman’s gray car can be seen lying across the tracks after the collision.
According to police, Route 535 remained closed for two hours while Conrail crews worked to remove the vehicle from the tracks. The elderly woman was taken to a local hospital with only a minor leg injury. The incident remains under investigation.
