The United States Special Operations Forces have officially expanded their fleet of MH-47G heavy helicopters after signing a new $877.7 million contract with Boeing.

According to information released by The Defense Post, the agreement includes the delivery of an unspecified number of aircraft, with program completion estimated for November 2030. Production will take place at Boeing’s industrial facility in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania.

The contract is a direct extension of the agreement signed in March of this year, valued at $240 million, which already included the manufacture of five MH-47G helicopters, with deliveries starting in 2027. In total, the full program encompasses 51 helicopters.

The MH-47G is a specialized version of the classic CH-47 Chinook, adapted for long-range operations in extreme environments. Designed for infiltration, exfiltration and transport of sensitive cargo, the model is widely used by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Armament and range

For combat missions, the MH-47G can be equipped with:

  • 7.62 mm machine guns
