Boeing has received a contract from the United States Army to produce up to 60 CH-47F Block II cargo helicopters for Germany.
According to a report from Defence Blog, this decision is part of a foreign military sales agreement. The fixed-price contract is estimated at $876 million and includes performance-based logistics support, training, and non-recurring engineering services.
According to the Department of Defense’s announcement, Boeing was the only bidder for the agreement, which was opened online. The contracted work will be performed at Boeing‘s facilities in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, with an estimated completion date of October 28, 2035.
The CH-47F Block II is the latest evolution of the well-known Chinook heavy-lift helicopter. The Block II version incorporates several design improvements, including an enhanced transmission system, redesigned fuel tanks, and upgraded avionics.
It is designed to increase payload capacity, extend range, and reduce maintenance requirements. Under the German Army’s use, it will assist in transport missions, humanitarian aid during disasters, and tactical operations in missions across Europe and worldwide.
