Venezuela has created a series of life-size replicas of military weapons to deceive U.S. intelligence services.
According to the portal Militarnyi, engineers from the Armed Forces of the Bolivarian Republic built models of an automatic anti-aircraft gun ZU-23, a 120 mm mortar, and an armored vehicle VN-4 to complicate the work of American intelligence.
For the automatic anti-aircraft gun, Venezuelan specialists attached aluminum corner reflectors to the barrel to produce radar signatures that mimic the signals of real combat vehicles.
Additionally, a replica of a 120 mm mortar was made using a plastic tube. Next to it, a camouflaged mannequin was placed to create the illusion of a soldier’s presence.
Venezuelan engineers also built a replica of the Chinese-made armored vehicle VN-4, used by the country’s National Guard. The real vehicles are painted white and used for patrols and protection of strategic installations.
These replicas are intended to simulate the presence of equipment in areas vulnerable to attacks or aerial reconnaissance, distracting the enemy and preserving real resources.
