Donald Trump used his social media to celebrate the destruction of another Venezuelan drug boat, a strike that reportedly killed six traffickers.
The American president shared a video and spoke about the event last Tuesday (October 14) on his own social network, Truth Social, according to The New York Post.
“Under my Permanent Authorities as Commander-in-Chief, this morning, the Secretary of War ordered a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) involved in narcotics trafficking in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility — near the coast of Venezuela,” Trump said.
“Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was trafficking narcotics, was associated with illicit narco-terrorist networks, and was operating on a known DTO route. The strike was conducted in international waters, and six narco-terrorists aboard the vessel were killed. No members of the U.S. Armed Forces were injured.”
It is unclear how many alleged Venezuelan boats have been attacked since the first strike was reported by Trump on September 2, though the number is believed to range from five to seven, depending on which U.S. authority is cited.
The latest airstrike comes as the Trump administration seeks to increase pressure on the authoritarian government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom the U.S. government accuses of facilitating both drug and human trafficking.
