Germany is expected to invest around $3.94 billion to purchase 150 Schakal infantry fighting vehicles for the Bundeswehr.
The project, currently under review by Bundestag committees, will be managed through the European agency OCCAR, which is also responsible for providing simulators, spare parts, logistical support, and maintenance.
Deliveries of the vehicles are expected to begin in late 2027, after the completion of testing and military qualification of the system. The Schakal is derived from the Boxer RCT30 platform and uses an unmanned turret similar to that of the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon and two MELLS anti-tank missiles (Spike LR/Spike LR2).
The new armored vehicles will be assigned to the grenadier units that make up the so-called “medium force” of the German army, including training groups. The government also plans, at a later stage, to expand the fleet with an additional purchase aimed at military reserves.
