Elon Musk allegedly lied about a supposed race between the Cybertruck and a 911, in which Tesla’s pickup supposedly won against Porsche’s supercar.
It turns out this race never happened. Surprisingly, the CEO recently reiterated the claim, despite it having been debunked nearly two years ago.
The claim was first made in December 2023, when Tesla unveiled the production version of the Cybertruck, according to Electrek.
At the time, the company released a video showing the electric pickup beating a Porsche 911 in what it claimed was a 400-meter race while towing another Porsche 911.

However, the claim was quickly challenged. First, Tesla was comparing the top-of-the-line Cybertruck, the Cyberbeast, with the Porsche 911 Carrera T, which is the slowest 911.
Moreover, the alleged “400-meter race” did not take place. From the video itself, it can be seen that the race ended halfway to the speed markers indicating 400 meters. In other words, Tesla filmed only a 200-meter run.
Even the 400-meter race was denied by the Cybertruck’s chief engineer, Wes Morrill. “We chose to end the day before anyone got hurt,” he said.
“Our simulations showed that the full 400-meter race would be close but with the same final result, so there was no need to risk it. We also had room to further reduce the trailer weight, but it wasn’t necessary.”
Still, Musk posted on his X (formerly Twitter) profile last Thursday (2nd) to reiterate that “the Tesla Cybertruck beats a 911 while towing a 911, meaning it can transport a 911 faster over 400 meters than the Porsche can go alone.”
In the comments, users did not hesitate to call out the billionaire for lying. “You liar! This was a 200-meter test. The 911 beat the Cybertruck in a 400-meter test six times in a row,” said one.
“The dumbest race no one asked for. You chose a 911 Carrera, the base and slowest model, because you know the general public has no idea how fast it is. They just see ‘Porsche’ and assume it’s a 911 Turbo,” jabbed another.
“This has literally been debunked multiple times. The Cybertruck is great, but this is a weird [flex]. Anyone driving like that while towing is a complete idiot,” argued a third.
