In the early morning of October 4, 2025, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces carried out a successful strike against the Russian missile ship “Grad”, project 21631 Buyan-M (tail number 575), on the territory of the Russian Federation.

According to official information released by the channel @ukr_sof, the operation took place at 04:31 in the waters of Lake Onega, located in the Republic of Karelia — about 1,000 km inside Russian territory.

Preliminary data indicate that the impact hit the starboard side of the ship’s engine compartment, causing critical damage that severely compromised its maneuverability and combat capability.

The Grad was in transit from the Baltic Sea to the Caspian Sea, possibly with the objective of reinforcing the Russian naval grouping in the south of the country. Its route passed exclusively through Russia’s inland waters.

Commissioned on December 29, 2022 into the Baltic Fleet, the corvette RFS Grad (575) is one of the newest units of the Buyan-M class — vessels known for their Kalibr-NK cruise missiles, often used in strikes against targets in Ukraine.

Losses in the Buyan-M fleet

According to independent sources, the strike on the Grad adds to a series of incidents involving ships of project 21631. Several Buyan-M corvettes have reportedly been damaged or destroyed in different operations since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, significantly reducing the availability of this type of vessel for the Russian Navy.
