Honda has just unveiled the new racing car Prelude GT500, based on the recent announcement of the Prelude in its sporty coupe version.

According to the Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), the Prelude GT500 will already compete in the 2026 Super GT season, racing against the Toyota GR Supra GT500 and the Nissan Z Nismo GT500.

The Prelude GT arrives as a replacement for the Civic Type R-GT, which only arrived in 2024 as a replacement for the NSX-GT. Although it is normal for Super GT manufacturers to use the same car for long periods, Honda reportedly felt that the Civic was underperforming.

According to the website Motorsport.com, the Civic’s four-door layout presented significant design limitations, leading to the switch to the Prelude, which Honda Racing believes will allow it to achieve “higher goals.”

“We see potential to reach a higher level than the Civic Type R-GT by applying the knowledge gained over the past two years to develop a Super GT machine based on the Prelude,” said Masahiro Saeki, HRC’s Super GT project leader, to Motorsport.com.
