Boxer Terence Crawford was involved in a police stop in Omaha, Nebraska. In the video, an officer is seen pointing a gun at Crawford in the early hours of September 28, after the fighter allegedly drove recklessly.
The officer in the video orders the boxer to exit the vehicle. Terence Crawford, who had received a city honor earlier that same day, raises his hands and says, “I’m not reaching for any gun.”
Crawford gets out of the car and is searched by police. The officer continues to point both a flashlight and a gun at the boxer.
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer stated that the situation will be reviewed and an internal investigation will be conducted.
“Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer are aware of a video circulating on social media involving a traffic stop with Terence Crawford early Sunday morning,” the statement read.
The statement noted that officers had received a report of a driver operating a vehicle recklessly in the area.
“During the stop, an officer observed a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard. For safety reasons, all occupants were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint,” said the police chief.
Terence Crawford was later fined for reckless driving.
“Police confirmed that all occupants were legally authorized to carry firearms. A supervisor and a police lieutenant responded to the scene at Mr. Crawford’s request.”
The boxer had been honored earlier with a championship parade in Omaha following his victory over Canelo Álvarez on September 13.
