The Portuguese Navy will receive two new replenishment and logistics support ships, which will be built by the Turkish shipyard STM and equipped with replenishment-at-sea (FAS) and refueling-at-sea (RAS) systems provided by Kongsberg Maritime.
The contract marks the first time that STM supplies vessels to a European Union and NATO member country.
With a length of 137 meters and a displacement of 11,000 tons, the new AOR+ ships will replace the only replenishment vessel currently in operation by the Portuguese Navy. They will be capable of operating for up to 90 days, carrying up to 20 light armored vehicles, and accommodating up to 100 crew members. In addition, they will be equipped for air defense and missions involving helicopters and drones.
According to Kongsberg, the replenishment equipment will feature pioneering electric technology, ensuring greater safety, speed, and efficiency, even in extreme climates.
For the company, this new contract strengthens the partnership with STM and reflects the growing interest of navies worldwide in modern and reliable replenishment-at-sea solutions.
