China unveiled, during preparations for a military parade in Beijing, the FK-3000, a short-range air defense vehicle capable of carrying up to 96 mini interceptor missiles.

Developed by the state-owned company CASIC, the system first appeared at the Zhuhai Air Show in 2022 and was designed to provide mobile protection against drones, helicopters, and cruise missiles. Mounted on a 6×6 truck, the vehicle combines interceptors of various calibers, a 30mm automatic cannon, and radar and infrared sensors for target tracking.

The FK-3000 can also incorporate additional features, such as electronic warfare jammers and network integration with other vehicles, increasing its effectiveness against mass attacks. Depending on the configuration, the system has a range of 300 meters to 12 kilometers and can perform C-RAM-type missions against rockets, mortars, and artillery. Even when operating alone, it offers high defensive capability, but when used in conjunction with similar vehicles, it can form a layered protection barrier.

The emergence of the FK-3000 reflects China’s growing investment in SHORAD systems, in a context where recent conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine and attacks in the Middle East, have highlighted the increasing threat of drones and low-cost missiles.

While Russia and the United States are also racing to modernize their defenses, the new Chinese system stands out for its mobility, high interceptor capacity, and potential to set a global trend in the future of short-range air defense.
