Singer and pianist Billy Joel, who is also the owner of the famous 20th Century Cycles, has announced that he will close the shop due to health issues.
Joel, now 76 years old, was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, a condition in which fluid builds up in the brain, causing problems with balance, memory, and thinking.
He has already canceled upcoming shows due to difficulties walking and maintaining stability. According to Joel, he is doing well in other respects, but keeping balance has indeed been a challenge.
For this reason, he recently announced that he will close 20th Century Cycles, located in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York (USA). Beyond being just a motorcycle shop, 20th Century was a true museum of classic motorcycles.

There, he displayed his personal collection of over 75 motorcycles, including Harleys, Triumphs, Indians, Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, BMWs, and even a rare 1952 Vincent Rapide.
Joel did not charge admission for people to see them. He simply wanted fans and other enthusiasts to appreciate the beauty of these machines from the 1930s to the 1960s, an era he felt was fading from memory.
Therefore, the news of the shop’s closure is truly very sad. It’s clear that motorcycles were not just a hobby for him—they were part of who he is. For decades, motorcycles have been intertwined with his life and legacy almost as much as his music.
The motorcycles that were in the shop have already been removed. However, the shop remained open on recent weekends, selling new, used, and vintage parts that were still in stock.
