Russian forces are adapting their Lancet drones to use PTM-3 anti-tank mines as a new explosive payload.
A video released on the X platform shows the weapon modification, replacing the standard KZ-6 warhead with this Soviet-era mine, designed to destroy both light and heavy armored vehicles.
With a total weight of 4.9 kg, which is compatible with the drone’s payload capacity, the PTM-3 offers a greater amount of explosive (1.8 kg) compared to the KZ-6 (1.5 kg). However, despite the increased explosive volume, its penetration capability is lower: around 80 mm of armor versus up to 200 mm with the KZ-6, depending on conditions.
The change reveals a new Russian drone weapon strategy, prioritizing heavier and more versatile payloads. The Lancet system, manufactured by the company Aeroscan, had already gained attention in previous demonstrations, indicating a continued effort to modernize the country’s tactical arsenal.
