Audi, which is facing a severe crisis in new vehicle sales, has suggested that it is beginning to emerge from its “lowest point” following some recent launches.
That’s what Gernot Döllner, Audi’s CEO, said during a conversation with Bild. Although he indicated that Audi is starting to recover, he admitted there is still a lot of work ahead.
“I don’t want to beat around the bush, we need to get back on track now,” he told the magazine. The German automaker recorded an 11.8% drop in sales last year. This year, it’s already down another 5.9%.
To regain the spotlight, Audi is betting on its new release: the Audi E5 Sportback, an electric car concept that will be unveiled in September at the IAA Mobility in Munich.
The coupé, nicknamed TT Moment 2.0, aims to revive the spirit of the TT from past decades and was described by Döllner as a “highly emotional” project.
For now, it will be launched only as a concept, but a production version is planned within the next two years.
The TT Moment 2.0 will be 100% electric, but Audi will continue producing combustion engines after delaying its transition to electric vehicles from 2032 to the middle of the next decade.
