Photos of the Chinese stealth fighter J-20A have started circulating on Chinese social media, increasing speculation that the jet is preparing to take part in a military parade in China.

The photos went viral on Weibo, China’s equivalent to Facebook, and show the J-20A jet, also known as the Mighty Dragon. The J-35, another Chinese fifth-generation stealth fighter, was also photographed.

In recent weeks, advanced aircraft have been repeatedly seen flying in formation across the country. According to posts on Chinese social media, many of them were identified as J-20A jets.

China is preparing to hold a major military parade on September 3. The event, which marks the 80th anniversary of its victory in World War II, will take place in Beijing and is expected to feature new weapons, including aircraft never before seen in public.

In a report by The War Zone from last September, a clearer image showed the prototype of the J-20A with the serial number 2052 on a runway at the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation in southwest China.

According to the site, the photo confirmed earlier speculation that the jet had undergone several major upgrades, including the installation of domestically developed WS-15 turbofan engines.
