The announcement was made by the Turkish Ministry of National Defense through its official social media channels. According to the statement, the launch of MURATREİS marks an important milestone within the New Type Submarine Project (YTDP), which began on June 22, 2011, through an agreement between the Presidency of Defense Industries and the German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).
The project includes the construction of six REİS Class submarines at the Gölcük Shipyard Command facilities, with a high level of domestic industry participation.
These submarines represent a new generation of submersible platforms with advanced technology, including air-independent propulsion (AIP), significantly increasing the vessels’ operational autonomy and stealth.
The first submarine of the class, TCG PİRİREİS, was officially delivered to the Turkish Navy in 2024.
With the launch of TCG MURATREİS, the second in the series, the project moves forward toward the goal of equipping the Turkish fleet with modern submarine warfare capabilities by the end of the decade.
