UK receives new F-35Bs and boosts air power with focus on modernization and fleet expansion (X @RoyalAirForce)
The United Kingdom has received two more stealth fighters F-35B Lightning, which arrived at RAF Marham airbase after a long journey from the United States, with logistical support from an RAF Voyager aircraft.
This delivery reinforces the UK’s commitment to modernizing its air force, especially by strengthening its carrier-based combat capabilities aboard Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers.
Currently, the plan is to receive 47 aircraft from the first batch by the end of 2025—originally 48, but one was lost in an accident. The Ministry of Defence has already indicated plans to acquire a new batch with a dedicated budget, expanding the F-35B fleet beyond the units already ordered.
According to the strategic document “Defence in a Competitive Age,” the RAF will continue to expand its combat force with seven operational Typhoon squadrons and a growing Lightning II fleet.
New technologies are also being developed, such as electronically scanned radar and the integration of advanced weaponry like the SPEAR Cap 3, ensuring that the UK’s combat aviation remains modern and capable in the face of contemporary threats.
