In the first quarter of 2025, the European automotive market saw significant changes, with the Renault Group leading sales.
According to Focus2Move, the Renault Clio overtook the Dacia Sandero to become the best-selling car in Europe, with 72,223 units registered, marking an 8.3% increase. The Sandero, which held the top spot the previous year, dropped to second place with 68,695 units sold—a 9% decline. Additionally, the Renault Duster also stood out, climbing to third place with 60,562 units sold, representing a 23.1% increase.
The performance of the Tesla Model Y was one of the biggest negative surprises, plummeting 25 positions to rank 30th. Despite being the world’s best-selling car, Tesla faced significant rejection in Europe following controversies surrounding its CEO, Elon Musk.
In contrast, the Volkswagen Tiguan performed well, climbing 12 spots to break into the top 10, while Chinese electric vehicle brands also began gaining ground in the European market.
Among other notable changes, the Volkswagen Golf and Citroën C3 experienced declines in sales, while the Volkswagen T-Roc and Opel Corsa saw increases.
Overall, the European market recorded a slight slowdown of 0.4%, with a total of 3.67 million units sold.
