The JMEV 01, a new Chinese electric car developed by the startup TGAT with support from Xiaomi, is finally hitting the market after bureaucratic delays.

Unveiled in 2022, the model debuts in China for around USD 39,100 (direct conversion). With looks inspired by Ferrari cars, the sports model impresses with its performance: it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, thanks to two electric motors that together deliver 425 hp.

The car is lightweight, weighing only 1,365 kg, due to the use of materials like aluminum and magnesium, along with a tubular frame. Its compact dimensions and low center of gravity (380 mm) enhance performance, as do the double wishbone suspension, high-performance brakes, and a 60 kWh battery, which offers a range of up to 500 km (based on the Chinese cycle). Top speed is limited to 200 km/h to preserve the battery.

Inside, the JMEV 01 follows the style of Italian supercars but with a simple and functional finish. The dashboard features analog controls, a button-equipped steering wheel, and carbon fiber seats. Despite the sophisticated inspiration, the model is more affordable and basic in features.

Its main rival in China is the MG Cyberster, priced at around USD 44,300, showing that the JMEV 01 aims for great value in the electric sports car segment.
