Victor Shepherd drove over 1 million miles, or more than 1.6 million kilometers, with his pickup truck and once again proved the durability of the brand’s models
A resident of Louisiana, United States, Victor Shepherd recently reached a remarkable milestone by driving over 1 million miles (equivalent to more than 1.6 million kilometers) with his 2014 Toyota Tundra. The achievement would already be impressive on its own, but it’s even more surprising considering this is the second time he’s reached this number with a pickup from the same line.
Previously, Shepherd had already surpassed the same milestone with a 2007 Toyota Tundra, which he used extensively in his routine as a private driver. It was estimated that he drove about 200,000 kilometers per year, frequently crossing the United States.
The vehicle’s reliability caught Toyota’s attention, and the company inspected the older model to study its durability. As a gesture of appreciation, the brand offered him a discount on a new 2016 Tundra, which he now uses for personal purposes, while the 2014 version continues to serve as his work companion.
Despite its long lifespan, the 2014 Tundra needed a few repairs after hitting the 1 million-mile mark again: the alternator and transmission were replaced. Still, Shepherd remains loyal to the model.
“These trucks are safe and reliable,” he said. “If you see a Toyota broken down on the side of the road, be suspicious. It’s rare for them to fail.”
