In partnership with Joby Aviation, Virgin Atlantic recently announced it will launch an air taxi service in the UK.
The electric aircraft from Joby can take off vertically, just like a helicopter, and then transition to forward flight using tilt-rotors, according to a report from The Verge.
According to Joby, the aircraft can reach a maximum speed of over 310 km/h and travel more than 240 kilometers on a single battery charge. Additionally, they emphasized that the air taxi is 100 times quieter than traditional aircraft.
With this partnership, potential customers can book their trips on one of Joby‘s aircraft via the Virgin Atlantic website and app.
However, the service cannot be launched until Joby has obtained the necessary certification, meaning the aircraft must meet all safety standards from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US.
